Ofgem Approves £642.1 Million for Bramford to Twinstead After Cutting 8.6% From National Grid's Request
Ofgem approved £642.1 million on 19 October for National Grid Electricity Transmission's Bramford to Twinstead reinforcement in Suffolk and Essex. The company had asked for £702.7 million, so the allowance is £60.6 million (8.6%) lower. The decision confirms the position Ofgem set out in January.
The project includes 18 km of new overhead line, 11 km of underground cable, a new substation at Twinstead Green and upgrades at Bramford. It is one of 26 projects under the accelerated strategic transmission investment framework. Spread over the 29 km of route, the allowance is about £22.1 million per km, although that figure also covers the substation work.
Ofgem expects RIIO-3 network spending to add about £108 to typical annual bills by 2031, about £60 of it for new infrastructure. It sets that against an estimated £80 of savings.
